W.B. Lewis was awarded the prestigious Enrico Fermi Award by the President of the USA, Ronald Regan, and the US Department of Energy (DOE) in 1982. The award dated February 24, 1982, would normally have been made at the White House in Washington but because of Dr. Lewis’s poor health, the ceremony was instead held at the CRNL library auditorium on July 26, 1982. The presentation to Dr. Lewis was made by the head of the US delegation, Alvin Trivelpiece, Director of the Office of Energy Research, US DOE.
