The Zero Energy Experimental Pile (ZEEP) reactor was the first reactor in the world to operate outside of the USA. It went into operation on 05 September 1945. The reactor had a graphite reflector and in 1997 when the reactor was dismantled and donated by AECL to the Canadian Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa one block of graphite was retained and cut into many small pieces. These ~ 1 x1 x 2 cm pieces were embedded in plastic and presented to many employees who had an association with the historic reactor over its long life. The plastic unit is ~6 cm wide and 7.5 cm tall.
