Over the past several years the Society for the Preservation of Canada’s Nuclear Heritage Inc. has attempted to reach as wide a Canadian audience as possible with its newsletters, website and with the series of articles that the North Renfrew Times has graciously continued to publish. It is gratifying to know that knowledge of the existence of the Society is spreading.
In mid-December, 2020 the Society received an envelope posted in St. John, NB. Inside were a 3” by 4” black and white photograph of NRU and a card with a hand-written message. The message dated Nov 26, 2020 read:
“Since Deep River and CRNL is celebrating its 75th anniversary I thought that you might like to have the enclosed snapshot. My husband, I and our young son moved to Deep River in 1952. My husband died there in 1995 and I continued to live there until I moved to Saint John to be near family.
“I spent 59 years in Deep River and have many wonderful memories – I am 96 years old and treasure the time that I spent there. Regards. Glennis Boyce.”
The Society continues with its mission to collect and to preserve key historical artifacts related to Canada’s world-class nuclear research and development history, and to promote public education about Canada’s nuclear history. To broaden our reach, we encourage all our members and followers to tell their colleagues, acquaintances and family all across Canada of our existence and mission.
