Mounted colour photograph of CRNL buses

Artifact Number:

2024-007

Description

A 32 cm by 48 cm, hardboard-backed, colour photograph displaying the lineup of transport buses at the loading gates as typically seen for many years at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. Those buses with a Pembroke destination were normally the first in line followed by the Deep River ones. Until about 1985, there were two sets of buses. The first was for “staff”, typically the research and administrative groups, who worked a 37.5-hour week and a second set, 15 minutes earlier in the morning and 15 minutes later in the evening, for “hourly-rate” workers who worked a 40-hour week. As the passenger load decreased when more people began to use private transport, the staff set of buses were cancelled and only one set was in service.
